Sanchayeeta Iyer

My name is Sanchayeeta (Sanchu) Iyer and I’m from London. I have a BA (hon) in Development Studies and Geography from SOAS and King’s College in London. After participating in a short postgraduate course in Deaf Children, Youth and International Development in ISS with Royal Dutch Kentalis in Den Haag, Netherlands, I did a MSc in Children, Youth and International Development (where I studied ethnographic approaches) in Birkbeck College in London.

I did a year of voluntary work in Manila, Philippines with various deaf organisations including Philippine Federation of the Deaf. My interest in International Development has led me to do voluntary work including being a trustee for a deaf organisation which support deaf people in Burundi and Rwanda. Prior to taking up a PhD position, I worked for the Deaf Ethnic Women’s Association in London. All these previous skills and experiences enable me to participate in MobileDeaf, doing a PhD within the labour migration project.
